Sign Circle Camping

Deaf BSL Camping Festival 2009

Longridge, Lancashire - Friday 28th - Monday 31st May

Sign Circle History

Sign Circle, a volunteer run organisation, was set up in 2006 by a group of people who went camping at festivals and realised that not many Deaf people go to them.

The reason was lack of access to workshops and entertainment so this is how Sign Circle came about to give Deaf people the opportunities and experience in BSL!

Sign Circle Camping Festival is aimed at the signing community; Deaf people, their families, friends and people who learn sign language to enjoy camping and experience festivals.

Sign Circle has been successfully running for the last couple of years and will continue to do so, mainly thanks to all the volunteers who donate their time and all the performers, workshop leaders and entertainers.

Figures below show how Sign Circle has expanded and become a well-known event in the Deaf Community:

  • May 2007, 142 people at Fanwood Campsite in Yorkshire
  • May 2008, 250 people at Fanwood Campsite in Yorkshire
  • May 2009, 400 people at Longridge Campsite in Lancashire
